The Town of Wheatland Fire Department offers both fire and EMS services to the Town of Wheatland. The fire department has 3 Fire Companies along with an EMS Division. The Town of Wheatland Fire Department is 100% volunteer. We have no paid members at the fire station. All of our members carry pagers on them and are alerted in the event of an emergency. Our members then respond to the station or have their gear with them and respond to the scenes to help mitigate the emergencies. The Town of Wheatland Fire Department is a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, MABAS. The MABAS system allows multiple Fire and EMS agencies to work together seamlessly during multiple agency emergencies and disasters. The Town of Wheatland is part of MABAS Division 101.
EMS
The Town of Wheatland Fire Departments EMS program currently consists of first responders. Our first responders respond directly to the scene when a call for an ambulance is placed. The first responders have an EMS jump bag with BLS supplies and an AED in their vehicle so when they go directly to the scene they can start patient care immediately. The 10 dedicated first responders that we have on our team start treating, assessing, and stabilizing the patient before the arrival of the ambulance. Currently right now there is no ambulance at the Wheatland fire house so ambulance coverage is provided by the Village of Twin Lakes Rescue Squad and they are dispatched simultaneously with the Wheatland Fire Department for the ambulance calls. Twin Lakes Rescue Squad responds with an ambulance to the scene and works in conjunction with the Wheatland first responders to treat and transport the patient.
